What is it they say about "best laid plans"?
(No, seriously, because I can't remember, and I feel like it fits this situation.)
The last few weeks have not been my friend.
I got a blister, derailed.
It got super effing hot, derailed.
Blister still hanging tough, derailed.
Vacation, I need the break from EVERYTHING, so...derailed.
Wake up the day after vacation so I can go out into the world and jog like it's my job?
SICK AS ALL FUCKITY FUCK!
I'm not feeling "better" today, per se, but I'm feeling...different? The crud has slowly moved to a different location in Sunny Bree-ida.
At BEST, I'm thinking I'll be back 100% on Tuesday. And even if that IS the case, I'm not gonna want to do any hardcore working out this week because that 5K in Gregory?
It's a week from today. TODAY. You hear that??? TODAY!!!!
So yeah.
Yeah.
Ok.

Poop
I'm taking a break from getting ready for work and packing for vacation (but mostly packing for vacation, cause...eff work) to say this:
This blister can suck it.
It's ALMOST gone. If you'd like gross details, please read the next little blurb. If not, skip it.
(So it finally started to come apart, and I now have a weird flap of toe skin just hanging out on my 4th toe on my right foot. I'd rip it off, but I'm not that gross.)
I'm taking my shoes and socks and running accoutrement on vacation with me, and if I feel so inclined, shall find a suitable place in the campground to get my fitness on.
Anywho, enjoy your week, as I will spend mine drunkenly floating down a river.

Here I Go Again
I took a little break.
I didn't WANT to take a little break.
The heat and humidity did.
(And I've had a rough week, but that is neither here nor there at this point)
I ended up with a blister after I went out on July 3rd, and it never healed all the way.
I've been waiting for that to happen.
It's almost there.
Depending on how it looks today after work, there's some distance in my very near future.
I did go and purchase some dri-fit socks, which according to my runner friends are supposed to be really great for keeping moisture away.
(My other options are apparently wrapping my toes individually in duct tape, or covering them in Aquaphor. I'll stick with the socks, thanks.)
I'm fully aware that I could have gone to the gym in this time, since it's air conditioned.
But I didn't fucking feel like it.
And if I go to the gym when I don't feel like it, I put in a pussy-ass workout of about 10 minutes, decide "That's good!", then leave.
I'd rather not.
I did, however, just officially register for the Run Past Hell Firefighters 5K in Gregory on August 3rd.

Seriously?
I went to the gym on Tuesday night.
I discovered my issue is not with the recumbent bike as originally thought.
No.
My problem, indeed, is my boobs.
The regular stationary bike is almost worse.
So the next foray into the gym, back to the recumbent bike go I.
(Plus it was easier on my legs, getting the seat on those bikes into the perfect height is, like...rocket science.)
Today I went and dragged my sister out with me again.
We did 2.62km in 31:49 (so 12:10 min/km). Not my best, but not my worst!
I jogged quite a few times, still short distances (one was for about .2km, another for .17km, another for .15km. and another for...whatever the distance from the house on the corner's mailbox to halfway up my parent's driveway, I don't freaking know, I was too busy trying to not fall down to check that one!)
Also, a small word of advice, from my arms to yours: if you do a weight workout focusing on your arms on a Tuesday, do not try to catch up to your mom and nephew on a tube in a lazy river by paddling with your arms as hard as you can on a Wednesday. Just...don't. Trust me.

Yes I Did
I'm a slacker.
Only not really.
I hit the gym Saturday.
I found out I really dislike the recumbent bike.
(Mostly because my boobs are in the way. Actually completely because my boobs are in the way.)
(...and slightly because I can never seem to get the seat put the correct distance away from the pedals for my feet to work properly.)
So yeah.
Gym.
Bike.
Then the 30 minute circuit.
(Which was more like the 10 minute circuit, because I skipped the step boxes and just did the machines.)
My arms hurt today.
I am glad.
(Sidenote: I actually LOVE that feeling. The one you get when you wake up the day after a workout and it hurts to move and you find yourself asking "WHY WHY WHY WHYYYYY". I like it. Call me a weirdo.)
I figured that since I was doing the running/jogging/walking thing and my leg region was getting smaller, I should probably do something with my arms so I don't end up looking like some kind of tiny leg-ged huge arm-ed FREAK.
SO yeah, I did all that. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Today I went for a jog/walk with my sister. We used a different route this time, and I liked it so much better. It's repetitive, because it's just around a block, but it's good and flat. I'll take it.
We only did 1.70km today, but I managed to run for .2km without stopping and walking again.
(For those of you who AREN'T overweight and have attempted to RUN anywhere? That's a lot. Trust me. It was almost an entire side of the block.)
And I did it twice.
So I'm scoring that as a MAJOR improvement from where I started.

I'll Take That
Yesterday I tried an experiment.
I turned the C25k app on, and ran the very first workout.
(The one where you jog 60 then walk 90).
Here's what I discovered:
3 weeks ago, I was able to do 2.1km, in 25:52 (because I skipped ahead on some sections), with an average pace of 11:35.
Yesterday, I went 2.55km, in 30 minutes exactly (because I did NOT skip any sections), with an average pace of 11:49.
That's like...no improvement whatsoever.
What the actual fuck.
(You're witnessing a meltdown in realtime here. I totally thought I had a vast improvement on my pace, and a small one on distance, and I just discovered, while typing this all out, that I definitely did NOT.)
******
Ok, a few deep breaths later, I've thought it through.
The TIME is not the important part right now.
(As the people who made the C25k app have stressed on many occasion.)
The DISTANCE is what matters.
And considering my first three forays into this were under a mile and a half, and all but ONE of the rest of them since have been 2-3 miles, THAT is what counts right now.
That's what's getting difficult for me. I so WANT to improve on my time, but I'm physically not at that point yet.
Determination has to count for something, right?

Count Doooooown
There are 54 days left until the A2 Project Zombie 10k.
If that didn't light a firecracker under my tired feet, I don't know what will!!
There are also 33 days until the Run Past Hell 5k in Gregory.
Not concerned about the 5k.
Still concerned about the 10k.

New Plan
So I started thinking.
(Mostly today, while I was dying around the 3.5 km mark)
My plan to get in a 5k distance with every workout is a bad plan.
It's a good plan for a relatively in shape person.
It's a bad plan for a me person.
So I trimmed it down a bit. I'm going to go with the 4km route until I get to the point where I actually feel like I could do more.
Anyway, I bettered my pace today. 12:00 min/km, down :08 from the pace I had on a Friday when I did a full 5k distance. 49:49 as far as time goes. And my total distance ended up being 4.15 km. I don't think my total time would have been in my goal range of under an hour, but there are factors.
(Like instead of going to the state park like Friday, I went to my parent's and went on the roads nearby)
It's hard to get an accurate read on bettering something when you keep changing where you're doing it. But whatever. I went. I did. And now I'm gonna go make lunch.
*****
Also, the road bothered the ever loving HELL out of my shins again today. I don't know what it is about that route that is so much worse when my sister doesn't go with me, but I'm gonna have to start weighing shin pain versus the joint pain of being on pavement. I think shin pain is gonna win and send me packing back to the state park paths and their cursed hills.
